‘Babies don’t keep’. One day you see your toddler looking all cute in that bee print onesie and another minute they’re running around. Well! This obviously is an exaggeration but then it does feel like every time you blink, your little one is just growing.
All these times when they’re growing, they’re also building their unique personality. Isn’t it amazing how 2 kids raised by the same sets of parents turn out so different? It’s a beauty and a miracle. Did we go off topic a little? Don’t mind us, we are just emotional talking about these running, sleeping bundle of joys.
Yes, what were we saying? As your kids are growing, they’re also outgrowing a LOT of their clothes. It is tempting to toss everything in a box with the intention of coming back to it later. But then, the box becomes a pile, the pile becomes a giant cupboard and you do not even realise.
We bring you 4 ways in which you can utilise the clothes that babies grow out of:
- Save special pieces and donate the rest
With children, there are always so many ‘first times’- calling your name, crawling, walking, eating, birthday and what not. A great way to cherish these memories is by creating a ‘keepsake bin’ where you put all the important outfits that will take you to a memory lane. The remainder you can donate to NGOs, organisations or directly to the people who need it. You will put a smile on so many faces with your act, it’s unmatchable.
- Hand them down
If you have a lot of pieces that have only been worn once or max twice and are in a good condition, you can easily save them up either for your next baby (if you’re planning) or pass them on to a friend/relative who’s expecting. If no one comes to your mind, you can always ask around on social media or a new mom’s group. Someone would definitely be happy to have those cute little clothes for their kid/s.
- Get crafty and repurpose
If you have even the slightest knack for creativity, you can always upcycle or repurpose the baby’s clothes into new items. We’ll give you some ideas:
- If there’s a stained or slightly damaged garment, avoid the unwanted part, cut the pieces into squared and you can make a baby quilt, blanket and so many other things from it. This is also a great idea for preserving the baby’s clothes for memories.
- Create a plush toy by stuffing the clothing with cotton/fibres.
- Make a bunting or a banner with your favourite items. Great idea for decoration, memories and gifting once your kid grows.
- You can cut out the elastic part of the waist and turn it into a headband.
There are just so many ideas, either you can implement them all or go with the one you prefer. It’s your choice. Do whatever makes you happy!
